Patient-Centred Care Awareness Month in October
18th September 2011—Enriched Health will join Planetree, as well as hospitals and health care organisations around the world this October to commemorate the fifth annual Patient-Centred Care Awareness Month. This year’s theme, “Transforming the Health Care Experience through Patient and Family Engagement,” and butterfly icon represents the significant organisational culture change and transformation to patient-centred care.
Ultimately when patients report that they feel they are being treated with dignity, respect and compassion, when families express gratitude for being treated as full partners in care, and when health care providers are prideful of their work, the rewards are vibrant and uplifting.
“Reorienting daily routines and standard processes to a more patient-centered approach can challenge long-held conventions. To foster sustainable organisational culture change requires persistence, perseverance, commitment and vision,” said Planetree President Susan Frampton. “Engaging patients and families is a cornerstone of providing quality health care. Care partner programs, patient advisory councils, bedside shift reports and open medical records are just a few ways to activate patients and families. True partnerships humanize and personalise the patient experience.”
Patient-Centred Care Awareness Month is sponsored and coordinated by Planetree who are partnering with health care organisations across the globe to advance patient-centred approaches to care. Enriched Health has been actively engaged in implementing the Planetree model for the past 4 years, focusing on service excellence and providing meaningful opportunities for patients and families to be actively involved in their care. We have progressed our journey to improved patient centred care through the provision of state of the art health care facilities with welcoming environments, upgrading technology to assist with improved healthcare outcomes, integration of our healthcare services to ensure continuity of care, upgrading patient access to service choice, providing opportunities for patient feedback, and the implementation and mentoring of our healthcare team against patient centred care key performance indicators. During October to celebrate patient centred month we will be furthering these achievements with the development of Enriched Health’s first patient advisory committee drawing upon patients family members and community health group representatives to provide further input into the improvement of our health care programs. Several activities are planned to increase awareness about the patient-centred model of care, empower patients and inspire health care organisations to further advance and expand the practice. Highlights of the month’s activities include:
- The 2011 Planetree Annual Conference will be held October 30-November 2 in Nashville
- The recognition of individual health care professionals for their personal
- embodiment of the values of patient-centred care at the annual Spirit of Planetree
- Awards on November 2 concluding the 2011 Planetree Annual Conference
- Healthcare organisations are coordinating a variety of events as well as distributing “I Am an Expert About Me” stickers to patients, and staff members are wearing “I Am Listening” stickers.
